Sangria is the perfect summer drink. This recipe calls for apples and oranges, but feel free to play with other fruit options. Keep the apples, though because the crunch of green apple with the red wine is delightful! Remember, the longer the sangria can sit before serving—the better.
INGREDIENTS
1 green apple, diced into chunks
2 oranges—one juiced, one diced (rind removed)
1 lemon diced
2 750ml standard bottles of medium-bodied red Spanish wine
1/2 cup brandy
sparkling water or prosecco
spring of thyme for garnish
METHOD
Place the fruit, orange juice, brandy and wine into a large pitcher and stir to combine.
Refrigerate sangria for at least 3 to 4 hours, up to overnight, before serving.
When ready to serve, give the sangria one last stir and pour over a glass of ice.
Top with sparkling water or prosecco and garnish with a sprig of fresh thyme.
